Children, Nature and Place

Children, Nature and Place activates remembering through future generations. Working with children in Sydney, Iloilo and Bacolod (Philippines), the project invites young people to become co-curators of their own neighbourhoods. Through walks, workshops, play, listening, storytelling and shared exchange, children imagine how place might be understood through ecology, memory, care and cultural belonging.

The project is led by Claudia Chidiac and Paschal Daantos Berry in collaboration with:

Brian Fuata, D&P (Daniel Darwin and Perky Parong), James Brown, Jenny Bisset, Kikik Kollective, Latai Taumoepeau, Linda Kennedy, Mariam Arcilla, Maricel Montero, Paris Taia, Rosa Zerrudo and Super Inday, Samia Sayed and Sasha Strickland.

Neighbourhoods: East Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; Bacolod, Negros, Philippines; and Iloilo City, Panay, Philippines.

Children, Nature and Place: ArtVentures in Sydney is supported by the City of Sydney through the Innovation and Ideas Grant Program and by Create NSW.

You don’t need a paintbrush to make a work of art.
What I’ve discovered is, it comes from your heart.

Your tongue is a paintbrush to explore a far away place.
Who knew before Wednesday that art was a taste?

(9 year-old participant, Sydney 2025)
