Bhenji at Autoitalia, London
Auto Italia presents "Biraddali Dancing on the Horizon," the first UK solo exhibition by Filipina-Australian artist Bhenji Ra. This 30-minute 16mm film documents ancestral learning through the pangalay dance, guided by Tausug elder Sitti Airia Sangkula Askalani-Obeso. The film intertwines ritual and mythology, exploring gender and identity through the lens of the Biraddali, a celestial figure. Accompanied by a score from Tati au Miel, the work challenges colonial dance narratives and celebrates decolonial choreography.
